Susan Bennett Short Biography

I speak fluent German and French, and have worked in Germany, France and the Middle East. I take a special interest in linking cultures, especially but not exclusively through cinema.

Since 2008: Writer/producer at In Time Pictures Ltd, which was set up to produce features and documentaries with an international point of view.

Current activity: writer and co-producer of Burning Conviction, a feature about political exiles, directed by Horace Ové. Part funded and developed up to pre-production stage. Addressed conference on translation at Palermo university.

2001-2009 Wrote and co-produced children’s bilingual-education DVDs in 22 languages for the charity Tam Tam Tales Trust

1996-2000 translated books from German and French for Libris, Könemann. Reviewed German movies for ‘Time Out’.

1994-1995 Wrote and co-produced Views of the Holy Land (Ein Maler im Heiligen Land), Drama doc with Corin Redgrave and Nadim Sawalha, written by Susan Bennett, co-produced with MedMedia, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Jordanian TV.

1989-1994 Writer with Global Arts, produced episodes ‘Eileen Gray’ ‘Early Picasso’, ‘Sir Hans Sloane’as pilots for a series on collecting financed by Sotheby’s, plus a 40 min study of an art collection: The Thyssen Collection, filmed in Switzerland and Spain.

1980-1988 (As in-house writer for Mediac Limited) Arabic-language film magazine. Sculptures of Alan Jones, Riding for Everyone, Story of Flight, The Great Liners (for National Geographic TV) History of the Arab World, The Great Empires (for Voice of Knowledge Geneva)

1976-1984 regular contracts as researcher and/or associate producer in BBC TV Science and Features department, working on science and history series including Horizon, The Secret War, SOE, The Story of Penicillin.
